As part of SGA’s recent selection as 1 of 172 communities to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy’s “Solar in Your Community” Challenge,SGA is using its role as director of the Oak Park – River Forest PlanItGreen initiative to drive community solar, including:
a) educating residents and institutions – with a particular emphasis on low-to-moderate income (LMI) households and non-profits – about the opportunities to access solar energy;
b) catalyzing and supporting development of a pipeline of projects (2.5 megawatts through 2018) primarily serving the communities of Oak Park and River Forest and including roof top and community solar;
c) exploring municipal aggregation with village government partners; and
d) creating a road map and template for Chicago metro area communities to reach 100% renewable energy procurement.
