What happens when you take hard-won experience in the community sustainability realm, stir in a heavy dose of planning and project management and share it with dozens of municipalities eager to go green? We hope it will be many successful sustainability initiatives throughout the Chicago metropolitan region. The Sustainability Plan Toolkit, being produced by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) in partnership with Seven Generations Ahead and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, was discussed at GreenTown Chicago on May 22. The toolkit is a playbook for local communities interested in engaging their communities in sustainability plan development, community engagement, implementation, metrics and reporting. This guide will build upon successful plan development models in Oak Park-River Forest, Park Forest, Evanston and other communities in the Chicago metro area.
