SGA to Host Inaugural Micro Brew Review on August 23, 2008
Local microbreweries producing varieties of craft beers will showcase their creations at the inaugural Oak Park Micro Brew and Food Review to be held on Saturday August 23, 2008 from 3-7 pm on the newly designed Marion Street in Downtown Oak Park between North Blvd. and Lake Street. Produced by the Downtown Oak Park Association and Seven Generations Ahead, the review will offer tastings of 50 craft beers from 13 local microbreweries from across Illinois, including members of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild. Proceeds will benefit the work of Seven Generations Ahead. Oak Park restaurants will serve organic and local farm food samplings, and attendees will vote for favorite pairings with craft beers.
“The Illinois Craft Brewers Guild is excited to partner with Seven Generations Ahead and not only bring the diverse, high-quality and flavorful world of craft brewing to the Chicago metro area and Oak Park, but also help SGA educate consumers on how to be more earth friendly while supporting local brewers, restaurants and farmers.” states Illinois Craft Brewers Guild President Pete Crowley.
Live music and other festive activities will delight and entertain as participants enjoy their favorite beer and food. The Oak Park Micro Brew and Food Review will be a zero waste event, incorporating the collection and hauling of food residuals to a licensed compost facility, offering a collectible souvenir tasting glass and using materials that can be composted or recycled.
Pre-Event Tasting and Tour of the New Marion Street Cheese Market
A VIP pre-event celebration from 2-3 pm will be held at the new green Marion Street Cheese Market—a new facility featuring craft beers, local cheeses and other goodies that you won't want to miss. The pre-event includes a select craft brew and cheese tasting, a tour of the new facility and its green features and a welcome from brew master extraordinaire Pete Crowley, Marion Street Cheese Market proprietor Eric Larson and SGA Executive Director Gary Cuneen. VIP Event Tickets are $65 and include admission to the Oak Park Micro Brew Review main event.
