Going Carbon Neutral

What Is "Going Carbon Neutral"?

You buy locally grown, organic food. You recycle everything. And you’re even contemplating buying a hybrid. Excellent. But have you taken the next step toward owning responsibility for all of the carbon emissions you create? More individuals, organizations, and municipalities are making their next action on behalf of the planet and future generations to be “going carbon neutral”. Simply put, going carbon neutral means taking responsibility for the carbon dioxide you emit by offsetting CO2 emissions you generate with investments in projects that take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. Purchasing carbon “offsets” means investing in projects that reduce carbon emissions, which could include buying wind power or renewable energy certificates or investing in projects or organizations that plant trees, sequester carbon, or reduce emissions. We all produce carbon emissions when we heat and cool our homes, drive our cars, travel by air, or use common office and household appliances and technology. Going carbon neutral, combined with the strategy of reducing the emissions you generate, enables you to take responsibility for what you create and achieve the net result of zero emissions.
